Why believe its ‘your’ thought?
Instead of trying to stop the thoughts,
find out why do you believe the thoughts?
This is not valid all the time. Practical thoughts are very useful. Thoughts to solve a problem, pay the bills, etc. But there are times when thought activity starts to overwhelm you.
The first mistake is you believe its 'your' thought. The moment you take ownership of the thought, you will also start believing that you can do something about it.
But if you stop and check, the thought that is appearing in you right now, for example, is because of reading what apparently I wrote sitting here. So basically, it is not dependent on your personal control.
Millions of factors conjugate in bringing about a thought. It's a cosmic event that you are experiencing. Like startdust flying in the cosmos.
Do you have to identify with every thought that passes through you? Why do you identify? Why do you get so engrossed?
Deep down, is there some inclination?
You, as a separate person, are not creating a thought and cannot create a thought. Thoughts are just passing. Now it's your choice, how much entangled you wish to get with it.
The freedom lies there. Whether you get depressed with a thought or get excited with a thought, both come from your freedom.
Actually, the moment you believe you are this limited human person and not the knowing awareness, invariably you will believe all the thoughts.
There is actually no problem if you believe. And no problem if you don't believe. Because both happens out of your freedom. In this knowing, you start to relax.
